Director Ang Lee's full version of his erotic spy thriller Lust, Caution, set in Japanese occupied Shanghai, has been given the go signal for release and viewing with an R-18 rating. Lee has cut out 30 minutes of the film's controversial scenes to please China authorities, but he didn't have to do the same for Taiwan, who's 5-member committee voted unanimously in favor of the unedited version due to its artistic attributes. Lee's winning the Golden Lion in the Cannes Film festival most likely helped in the verdict. It's still not sure if other countries will follow Taiwan's example.
